Current research focus
Our overarching objective is to unravel the genetic mechanisms of autoimmune diseases (mainly type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple sclerosis).
We aim to identify genetic risk variants with particular focus on the HLA complex. The genetic studies are complemented by functional studies of RNA expression or protein profiles to shed light on the role of the genes in the pathogenesis. In addition, we uncover epigenetic signatures of disease and treatment response by longitudinal studies. We also explore the relationship between genetic risk polymorphisms and environmental risk factors.
